Parse Pay was founded in 2018 to develop a unified, data-centric point-of-sale platform to simplify payment processing, streamline operations, and improve the customer experience. By building new POS platform architecture, the company has built a fast, flexible, and forward-thinking suite of ordering and payment solutions tailored to the needs of fast-casual restaurant establishments.
In this portfolio project, I had the opportunity to work on designing an instruction booklet for the installation of a Point of Sale (POS) system. The client, a leading technology company specializing in POS solutions, required a comprehensive and user-friendly guide to assist their customers in setting up their newly purchased POS systems. The goal was to create a visually appealing and informative booklet that would streamline the installation process and improve the onboarding experience for end-users while maintaining the client's brand identity. These custom-illustrated documents walk the customer through installing the equipment and registering the device with the software step-by-step.
The project was divided into several key phases to ensure the successful design of the instruction booklet for POS system installation.
In the initial phase, extensive research was conducted on the client's brand identity and target audience. This was followed by a detailed analysis of the technical aspects of the POS system installation process. Additionally, competitor booklets were reviewed to identify best practices and areas for improvement.
With a solid understanding of the client's brand and the technical requirements, the concept development phase began. Creative concepts were brainstormed, focusing on making the booklet visually appealing and easy to follow. Close collaboration with the client helped establish the overall tone and style of the booklet, ensuring alignment with their brand identity.
To create the instructional content, close collaboration with the client's technical team was essential. Accurate and up-to-date information on the equipment and the installation process was gathered. Clear and concise written instructions were developed, complemented by high-quality illustrations and diagrams to enhance comprehension. The content was organized logically, following a step-by-step format. I started by creating line art images of the hardware, which included the screen display and the flip stand. I also created custom iconography for the knowledge base and online video library to match the brand identity.
Design and layout were crucial aspects of the project. A visually striking layout was designed, incorporating the client's branding elements, such as color schemes, typography, and logo placement. Custom graphics and icons were created to illustrate key steps and concepts, maintaining consistency in typography, spacing, and alignment throughout the booklet.
Draft versions of the booklet were presented to the client for feedback and revisions. This phase involved a collaborative effort to address any concerns and make necessary adjustments to the design and content, ensuring the final product met the client's expectations.
In the finalization phase, the booklet was prepared for print, meticulously ensuring that it met all printing specifications and quality standards. Both print-ready and digital versions of the booklet were delivered to the client, completing the project successfully.
